Reverse Osmosis is best known
for its use as a
water filter method for turning sea
water into drinkable water. However, it is also an extremely effective way to
treat water for organic and inorganic particles. It can reduce the number of contaminates
that are commonly found in water.
The key to the reverse
osmosis water filtering method is the semi-permeable membrane that is only
permeable to water. The reverse osmosis membranes will repel contaminates
based on their atomic weight or molecule size. Organic matter, such as bacteria
and some viruses, and inorganic matter, such as mineral salts and metals, can
separated from the water supply. The pressure of the water feed forces unprocessed,
possibly contaminated, water through the membranes, and as a result, only clean
and filtered water passes through the membrane. Impure particles are trapped,
and flushed away. (The temperature of the feed water can greatly affect the rate
of water filtering production, the lower the water temperature, the lower the
rate of production. Accordingly, the higher the water feed pressure, the better
quality of filtered water.)
At Online Water Parts, we carry industrial
reverse osmosis water filters & water filter parts. RO
membrane products include membranes manufactured by Osmonics
or Hydranautics, and membrane cleaners from Avista. Our selection includes 2"
to 8" membranes. Operating pressures range from 30-225, depending on manufacturer
and make. Our largest 8" RO membrane has a 10K GPD flowrate. We have access to all makes and manufacturers of membranes.
